Uncle\u2019s<\/a>, a Charlotte favorite known for its Southeast Asian comfort food, has closed after just five months in Plaza Midwood.<\/p>\n

Chef and owner Michael Le shared the shocking update Wednesday, July 1, saying the restaurant had \u201cclosed silently\u201d<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I started the project I was taking on a lot of pressure from last year with life and what not,\u201d he wrote in a farewell message posted to Instagram. \u201cThis was fun and new exciting also but at time went on I took on other projects and learned a lot from my major mistakes to when my little wins.\u201d<\/p>\n

CharlotteFive reached out to Le for comment on Wednesday and was awaiting a response.<\/p>\n

The eatery operated as Hello Uncle<\/a> and built a strong following through pop-up events around the city. In January, Le opened his first permanent space as Uncle\u2019s in a stationary food truck outside Burial Beer Co.<\/a><\/p>\n

The menu featured global flavors with a heavy South Asian influence with offerings like charred cabbage with fish sauce, Taiwanese cabbage and chili and khao man gai, a Thai-style chicken and rice dish.<\/p>\n

Le\u2019s pick for first timers was the khao man gai tod \u2014 or Thai fried chicken.<\/p>\n

In his final send-off, the chef said he was \u201csuper appreciative\u201d of the community\u2019s support and hinted at new opportunities in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a few projects in line but as I get back on my feet I\u2019ll be seeing you guys here and there!\u201d Le said. \u201cBe sure to say what\u2019s up!\u201d<\/p>\n
