Dangerous heat is expected later this week in the Charlotte, with highs of 100 degrees on multiple days, the National Weather Service says.<\/p>\n

Temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees above normal starting Wednesday and the heat index \u2013 how hot it feels \u2013 could top 105 degrees, forecasters say.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrent guidance suggests … the potential prolonged heat could persist through the holiday weekend<\/a> with little indication of significant relief,\u201d the National Weather Service reported Monday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose with outdoor plans, including holiday and recreation, should prepare for several days of elevated heat risk. Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 100-degree temperatures, the interior of cars left parked in the sun<\/a> can reach 130 to 173 degrees, according to Hot Car Calculator.<\/p>\n

The current forecast calls for the Charlotte area to see highs of 100 degrees<\/a> on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with lows at night in the 70s. The Heat Index will range from 105 to 107 degrees, officials say.<\/p>\n

Much of the region is at \u201cextreme\u201d risk<\/a> of facing heat-related impacts due to the long duration of heat \u201cwith little or no overnight relief,\u201d forecasters say. Heat related illnesses<\/a> include cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which is life-threatening.<\/p>\n
