The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur dumped inches of rain on the Charlotte region overnight, and U.S. Geological Survey data<\/a> shows some spots exceeded expectations.<\/p>\n

One inch to 1.5 inches was widely reported in the northwestern part of Mecklenburg County, and 1.5 inches to 2 inches was common to the south and east of uptown, data shows.<\/p>\n

This includes 1.96 inches recorded at South Mecklenburg High School, and 1.91 inches at Winterfield Elementary School.<\/p>\n

The Charlotte area was forecast to get up to two inches, the National Weather Service says.<\/p>\n

However, the Charles T. Myers Golf Course along Harrisburg Road got 2.79 inches of rain in 24 hours, according to USGS rain gage data reported as of 1 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n

In all, six gage stations around Charlotte had more than 2 inches of rain during the night, including: Rocky River Waste Water Treatment Plant in Concord (2.20 inches); Fire Station 16 in Charlotte (2.26 inches); Rhyne Farm in Mint Hill (2.32 inches), and Piney Grove Elementary (2.47 inches).<\/p>\n

The highest total reported in North Carolina as of 1 p.m. Friday was 2.89 inches in the Surry County community of Ararat, about a 95-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.<\/p>\n
