A major Monroe intersection is set to receive upgrades this summer thanks to a $1.3 million project<\/a> from the state.<\/p>\n

The North Carolina Department of Transportation<\/a> said the project will improve the intersection of U.S. Highway 74 and U.S. 601 on the east side of the city. According to NCDOT, Sealand Contractors Corporation of Midland<\/a> was awarded the $1.3 million contract for the project.<\/p>\n

The project will include these changes:<\/p>\n

The intersection\u2019s pavement is expected to be milled and resurfaced with new pavement markings. Work is expected to begin as early as Monday. Any lane closures for the project are expected to be limited to overnight hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.<\/p>\n

The roadwork is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.<\/p>\n

The work is one of two scheduled improvements<\/a> expected to start next week in Union County, according to NCDOT. The department\u2019s maintenance crews will also temporarily close the roundabout at N.C. 218 and N.C. 205, east of Fairview.<\/p>\n

The roundabout will be closed to traffic starting Monday, and will last through Wednesday afternoon. Crews will replace the concrete truck apron inside the roundabout.<\/p>\n
