Which is your favorite?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.<\/p>\n<p>Juneteenth officially became a national holiday in 2021, but according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/news\/local\/article252179173.html\">previous article<\/a> from The Charlotte Observer, the city of Charlotte has been celebrating since 1977.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the holiday serves as a time to recognize the struggles and achievements of African Americans while promoting education, unity and cultural appreciation.
