Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers are investigating a fatal stabbing in the Third Ward neighborhood Wednesday morning, according to a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police responded to the 1000 block of Sycamore Green Place<\/a> at 6:42 a.m., where a person was found dead with a stab wound in an apartment parking lot, the press release said.<\/p>\n

Tanya Gresham, who lives in the apartment complex, was walking her dog Wednesday morning as police took down crime scene tape that had blocked off a vehicle covered in blood.<\/p>\n

Gresham said fire alarms kept going off around 11 p.m., and then the Charlotte Fire Department arrived shortly after.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t smell smoke, but went outside to figure out why the alarm kept going off. She heard from another neighbor that someone kept pulling the alarm.<\/p>\n

She and her husband heard some commotion around 1 a.m. again, but figured people were just outside talking.<\/p>\n

Jerrilyn Sanders, another neighbor, said she wasn\u2019t aware there was a crime scene outside of her apartment until a friend called her.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy friend called me and said \u2018Somebody got killed over there in that apartment,\u2019\u201d Sanders said. \u201cI look out the window and saw the tape.\u201d<\/p>\n

She thought it must have been related to the fire trucks that came to the complex Tuesday night. She didn\u2019t hear any commotion or screaming, she said. There\u2019s never been an issue at the complex.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty good apartment complex,\u201d Sanders said.<\/p>\n

Shortly after, a tow truck arrived and took away a silver vehicle with a tarp taped over the driver and passenger windows.<\/p>\n

Police had not yet released the name of the victim.<\/p>\n

Police said anyone with information could call 704-432-TIPS or call the CrimeStoppers line at 704-334-1600.<\/p>\n
