The latest from the NWS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cJustice for Cherrie,\u201d Crump said, leading the crowd in a chant.<\/p>\n<p>Cherrie Moore, 33, retained Crump as an attorney following her arrest by then-officer Karson Hyder, who was fired by the department and charged with assault.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the crowd yelled that they loved Moore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe champ is here,\u201d another person yelled. The crowd  clapped and cheered as Crump  commented on the assault, which was captured on doorbell camera, at a press conference Tuesday morning at the church.<\/p>\n<p>Crump said he wondered what the police narrative would have been if the assault hadn\u2019t been caught on video. He said he called for criminal charges against Hyder after he was retained.<\/p>\n<p>Medical records said Moore suffered a fractured nose, Crump said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has mental health issues, and that\u2019s not a crime,\u201d Crump said. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, the attorney said. You may need it after a snake bite<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Located in the middle of Cleveland County, Shelby has a population of just over 20,000 people. The small city is surrounded by rural communities. Moore, a Shelby native, was assaulted just after 8 a.m. outside a home on Booker Street.<\/p>\n<p>The video appeared to show Hyder pulling Moore down to the ground and punching her before a second officer pulled Moore away and handcuffed her.<\/p>\n<p>The crowd counted in unison to 10, the number of times Crump said she was punched. A picture was displayed near Crump, showing the extent of Moore\u2019s facial injuries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just outright inhumane,\u201d Crump said.<\/p>\n<p>At a news conference Friday, Shelby Police Chief Brad Fraser said Hyder\u2019s actions were \u201cdistrubing and inappropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/charlotterelocationguide.com\/?p=1083\">Who\u2019s paying for the ads in North Carolina\u2019s US Senate race so far? | Opinion<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA second officer can be seen intervening to stop those actions,\u201d Fraser said.<\/p>\n<p><i>This is a developing story.
