Hoppin’ to close South End taphouse, ending 9-year run. Here’s what we know

Hoppin’ in South End Charlotte is closing — though it’s not yet clear how soon.

Owners of the self-pour taproom and cocktail bar shared the news in an Instagram post Wednesday, but stopped just short of confirming its last day in business. The reason behind the decision also wasn’t made public.

“We’ve had plenty of fun on here over the years,” the post read. “This is the post we never wanted to make.”

CharlotteFive reached out to Hoppin’ for more information but didn’t immediately hear back.

The South End location debuted in 2017, marking Charlotte’s first self-serve bar, Axios Charlotte reported at the time. The space features 60-plus taps made up of beer, wine and rosé, plus a full service cocktail bar.

The menu also featured tacos, corn dogs, loaded French fries and other bar bites.

In May, Hoppin’ shuttered its Rock Hill taphouse after three years in business, the Rock Hill Herald reported. The bar is still slated to open a new location on North Ames Street in Matthews.

In their farewell post, the owners at Hoppin’ Charlotte encouraged locals to “round up your crew and come make some more memories with us” as they iron out the closing details.

Charlotteans quickly took to social media to mourn the loss of their neighborhood watering hole:
