Union County team returns to The Observer’s Sweet 16 high school football poll
After beating Porter Ridge by a point on Friday, Marvin Ridge is back in The Observer’s Sweet 16 poll.

The Mavericks (6-1) have only lost to undefeated Weddington, No. 3 in this week’s poll, and are averaging 46 points in their six wins.
The Sweet 16, which began in 1984, ranks the top teams in the media company’s coverage area, which includes NCHSAA and NCISAA teams in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union counties.

The winner at the end of the season will receive a large banner to hang in its gymnasium.
