The Kindreds’ newest restaurant opens Wednesday. Here’s what to expect

Deepwell, a modern steakhouse in Mooresville, opens Wednesday, Sept. 16, bringing a New Orleans-inspired fine dining option to Lake Norman.

The latest restaurant from chef Joe and Katy Kindred — who own Michelin-recommended Kindred, and Hello, Sailor; along with Milkbread and Albertine — brings the couple’s signature sense of detail along with a flavor-packed menu of wood-fired steak and seafood, plus a few North Carolina touches. (Kindred has not yet reopened after a recent fire, but all signs point to that happening soon.)

“We are SO thrilled to join this amazing community in Mooresville. Thank y’all for the warm welcome.🤎,” the Deepwell team posted Tuesday on Instagram.

If you don’t already have reservations at Deepwell, there’s limited nightly seating is available for walk-ins at high top tables and at the bar, bar seating. Otherwise, you’ll want to plan well in advance to get a seat. As of Tuesday night, an Oct. 14 reservation for two at 8:30 p.m. was the first spot available.

Deepwell is set in a historic Main Street building in downtown Mooresville, and the dining room has been crafted to match the mood.

Checkered floors and street-lamp style fixtures set up an environment loaded with Southern charm, while velvet chairs and cushioned banquettes make things cozy and artwork catches your gaze.

Guests can peek into the kitchen while they eat or peek out at passersby from the cream-colored dining room that includes a bar set in front of windows to brighten the space.

Chilled seafood such as smoky redfish dip with brown butter Saltines or NOLA BBQ Shrimp with sourdough and lemon can kick off your meal, as well as a variety of cured meats and aged cheeses.

Dinner options include Prime brisket with collard greens, Sea Island red peas and the couple’s signature milk bread or a crispy NC flounder filet served with pomme purees and peekytoe crab butter. There is also a hefty list of large-format steaks to choose from, plus dry-aged whole NC-style BBQ duck or smoked NC fish on the half shell.

Classic cocktails and craft options created to match the menu are available, as are wine, beer and spirit-free options.

You’ll also want to take a look at the dessert menu, which includes a wood-fired milk bread dish accented with Cheerwine caramel sauce and sweet cream ice cream, along with chocolate cake and key lime cheesecake.
