Unusual fatal crash involved driver reported missing a week ago, NC troopers say
A deadly crash turned into something of a mystery when troopers discovered the driver had been reported missing a week earlier, according to investigators in western North Carolina.

The single-vehicle wreck happened around 11:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, near North Wilkesboro, about an 80-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.
“A gray Nissan Frontier was traveling west on Mountain Valley Church Road when it ran off the road to the left, traveled down an embankment, and struck a tree,” the N.C. State Highway Patrol said in a Sept. 12 news release.
“The driver of the truck, 58-year-old Roger David Harris, was identified and found deceased at the scene.”

Harris was last seen on Sept. 3, and was reported as a missing person on Sept. 4, the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.
He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, officials say. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
