Davidson placed third, Waxhaw fourth, Stallings sixth and Mint Hill 10th in the study by SafeWise, a home security systems research and testing group.
Rolesville in Wake County ranked No. 1, followed by Pinehurst in south-central NC.
Each top 10 city and town reported 1.0 or fewer violent crimes per 1,000 residents, and none experienced a homicide, according to the study based on official FBI crime data.
Waxhaw joined Pinehurst and the Wake County town of Fuquay-Varina as the only municipalities where property crime fell in each of at least the last four years, “which is extremely rare among all of America’s safest cities,” the study reported.

Davidson and Fuquay-Varina reported no rapes, and Stallings joined only Pinehurst and Elon in having no robberies, the report showed.
“In our latest State of Safety survey, residents of North Carolina reported fewer first-hand experiences with all types of crime except for property crime,” the authors of the study wrote.
“In keeping with this downward trend, North Carolinians are less concerned about crime and more likely to say they feel safe calling The Tar Heel State home,” according to the study.
