Women came to river with ‘improvised’ weapons, including stone ax, NC police say
Two woman are facing unusual weapons charges, after being found at a public boat ramp armed with a homemade knife, a primitive stone ax and “a torch,” according to investigators in eastern North Carolina.

The arrest happened Thursday at the Kinston Boating Access Area along the Neuse River, about an 80-mile drive southeast from downtown Raleigh.
“Sometimes a search incident to arrest turns into a little more than expected,” Kinston police said in a Sept. 10 news release.
“During an arrest this morning, officers removed … a knife, an improvised blade, a homemade hatchet, a torch, and methamphetamine. … Just another reminder that officers never really know what they may encounter.”
The weapons and drugs were in the possession of two women, ages 18 and 19, who live in nearby towns, police said.

Investigators have yet to explain why the duo went armed to the boat ramp, which is along NC 11-55.
The arrest came after Kinston Fire Department personnel began training near the ramp and reported “two females inside a vehicle with suspected drug paraphernalia,” police said.
The 18-year-old woman was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. The 19-year-old was issued a citation for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia, court documents show.
