One person killed by gunfire at church campground, North Carolina sheriff says
One person was killed when shots were fired in the dark at a campground affiliated with a church, according to investigators in North Carolina.

The identity of the person who died has not been released.
It happened around 1:20 a.m. at Tuckers Grove Campground in the 4500 block of NC 73 in Iron Station, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in an Aug. 23 news release. The church is about a 25-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.
“Deputies were providing security services at Tuckers Grove Campground … when a disturbance involving a firearm occurred,” the sheriff’s office said.

“During the disturbance an individual was shot by an unknown suspect. The suspect was pursued by deputies but fled the area. Deputies on scene as well as Lincoln County EMS personnel provided lifesaving measures, and the victim was transported to Atrium Main but died a short time later.”
Investigators have not released details of what prompted the dispute.
The campground has been used to host community camp meetings for decades, historians say.
