Julia Samantha Henderson, 22, was traveling at 132 mph in an Audi Premium Plus when she collided with a motorcycle driven by 17-year-old Alex Jaden Rodriguez, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol says.

Henderson turned herself on Aug. 15, and is charged with felony second degree murder and felony speed competition with a serious bodily injury or death, a warrant reports. She lives in High Point, records show.

Investigators say the race happened around 7:30 p.m. on July 25 near Sugar Creek Road in northeast Charlotte.

“A Mercedes, Audi, Hyundai and a motorcycle were traveling south on I-85. The Mercedes and Audi were traveling at a high rate of speed and collided with the motorcycle and Hyundai,” the NC Highway Patrol said in a news release.

“The operator of the motorcycle was ejected and deceased as a result of the collision. The driver of the Mercedes was transported to Atrium Main with minor injuries. The driver of the Audi and Hyundai refused medical treatment.”

Henderson has no prior criminal convictions, court documents say.

An obituary reports Rodriguez lived in Kannapolis and was a student at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College studying to be a diesel mechanic. “Known for his love of working on small engines and his ability to fix anything with a motor, Alex also cherished time spent hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors,” the obituary says.
