Mecklenburg County jail inmate found unresponsive in cell dies at hospital
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a 33-year-old man housed at the Mecklenburg County jail who died Thursday, a news release from the sheriff’s office said.

Domonique Chisholm was taken to the hospital after he was found unresponsive in his cell at 10:29 p.m. on Wednesday, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office said.
“Recognizing a potential crisis, the detention officer called for medical assistance,” the news release said. “Lifesaving measures were administered and continued until emergency medical personnel arrived.”
MEDIC arrived at the jail at 11:43 p.m. and transported Chisholm to Atrium Main at 12:09 a.m. where doctors pronounced him dead at 12:34 a.m. after treatment, the sheriff’s office said.

Chisholm is the second person in the Mecklenburg County jail to die this week. Another man, 59-year-old Todd Williams, was discovered to be unresponsive in his cell just before 9 a.m. Sunday. He died at the hospital shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 3.
Chisholm was booked into Mecklenburg County jail on April 20, 2026. Court records show Chisholm’s previous charges included larceny, theft and breaking and entering.
The medical examiner will determine Chisholm’s cause of death, the sheriff’s office said.
