Brazilian aluminum packaging company plans Charlotte growth as demand rises
A global packaging company that produces disposable aluminum products is adding onsite leaders to its Charlotte manufacturing facility.

Wyda Packaging, which is headquartered in Sorocaba, Brazil, is hiring employees including in operating and production roles, according to Celeste Costa, head of sales and marketing at the company.
Costa said the privately held company plans to expand its Charlotte presence, hoping to double its production capacity in the next one or two years. Wyda Packaging operates from two suites totaling 26,000 square feet at 3301 Woodpark Blvd.
Costa joined Wyda Packaging in 2021 when the company was researching expansion into the U.S. market. The U.S. Wyda Packaging facility opened in 2024, and Costa relocated from Georgia to Charlotte this year.
The company also added a plant manager and supply chain and operations specialist this year. Wyda Packaging has about 50 employees in Charlotte.
“I joke that we are a startup with 35 years of experience, because we can borrow all the experience from our headquarters in Brazil, but we are light enough that we can innovate and move easily,” Costa said.
Wyda Packaging and other brands producing aluminum products are affected by global trade policies, including the Trump administration’s aluminum tariffs.
President Donald Trump issued a flurry of executive orders when he returned to office in January 2025, but those did not include the metals industry. In February 2025, he announced 25% tariffs on aluminum, increasing from the 10% tariffs he issued in 2018. He also removed tariff exemptions for some countries.

In June 2025, the tariffs escalated to 50%. On July 20, Trump shared plans to reduce the tariff rate for companies building, expanding or refurbishing U.S. aluminum smelters, or plants.
“We were lucky enough that after the business started, there was an uptick in demand because companies are trying to avoid importing products (like) ours from overseas, especially from China,” Costa said.
Wyda Packaging is part of the private label market, and is sold in locations including grocery stores, dollar stores and retailers.
Wyda Packaging also has facilities in Brazil, Paraguay and South Africa. The Charlotte location is the company’s sole space in the U.S.
Costa said the company looked at South Carolina and Florida before choosing North Carolina, partially because of the training incentives. On-the-Job Training grants from the North Carolina Department of Commerce subsidize part of the training costs for new hires that fall under certain criteria.
She also said Charlotte is a central location close to ports and with access to labor.
