Charlotte-area storms could bring damaging winds and quarter-size hail next week, National Weather Service forecasters said Saturday.

“Strong to severe storms could develop Tuesday ahead of a cold front,” NWS meteorologists said on social media site X.
“Confidence in this threat is highest” in Charlotte, Rock Hill and all the way through Asheville and other parts of the mountains, forecasters said.
The region north and northwest of Charlotte, including Hickory and Newton, are included in the warning.
Storms are likely Tuesday afternoon and night, according to the NWS.
“Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings,” the NWS said.
The threat follows a rain dump Thursday that saw an average of just under 2 inches of rain in north Mecklenburg and 3 inches to 5 inches over a 24-hour period in southern Mecklenburg.

Clouds are expected to linger Saturday and Sunday, with little chance of more rain, according to the NWS forecast. The week ahead should remain mostly sunny.
Highs are forecast to range from 82 on Saturday to 87 on Sunday, 91 on Monday, 94 on Tuesday, 90 on Wednesday, 89 on Thursday and 90 on Friday, according to the NWS.
