Two 16-year-olds accused of killing 38-year-old man during robbery, CMPD said
Two 16-year-olds have been charged with murder in connection with the shooting of a 38-year-old man in Charlotte’s University City area, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. on April 9, and investigators believe the confrontation began as a robbery, CMPD said in a July 22 news release.
Kha-Zai McIllwain, 16, and Devonterival Miller, 16, were arrested Wednesday by CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and charged with: murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, officials said.

Virgil Leroy Hardeman Jr., 38, was found shot around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the 100 block of East McCullough Drive, near North Tryon Street, police say. He died April 10 after being taken to a hospital, CMPD says.
