Pizzeria staff and patrons ‘fought’ robbery suspect armed with hoe, NC police say
A North Carolina woman tried using a garden hoe to rob a pizzeria during the supper rush, and it didn’t end well, according to investigators.

The incident counts as an “attempted robbery,” police say, because the staff and patrons at Foxhole Pizza and Subs refused to cooperate.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 13, on East Main Street in Glen Alpine, and investigators say Tanya Ward, 51, tried twice within an hour to get money from the restaurant.
The first time, she came unarmed, “demanded money,” and the restaurant owner “refused and asked her to leave,” an affidavit reports.
After the owner left the restaurant, she returned with a “large garden hoe,” threatened the manager, and tried to get money from the cash register, police say.

“Patrons and (the) manager of the establishment fought her off and the restaurant employees attempted to restrain the defendant,” police say.
Ward fled to the parking lot and drove away in a car, police say. She was arrested later that day and charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, officials say. Ward is described as “homeless” in court documents.
Glen Alpine is near Morganton, about an 80-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.
