3 killed in hit-and-run, NC police say. Tracking dogs find suspect in creek bed
The suspect in a hit-and-run that killed three people was captured when dogs tracked the driver along a creek bed in the dark, according to investigators in North Carolina.

It happened around 10:45 p.m. Saturday along N.C. 150 in Salisbury, about a 40-mile drive north from uptown Charlotte.
“When officers arrived, they found one of the vehicles occupied by three individuals who had sustained critical injuries. Two occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third occupant was airlifted for medical treatment but later died from injuries sustained in the collision,” Salisbury police said in a July 19 news release.
“The second vehicle was located a short distance from the collision scene after leaving the roadway and coming to rest in a creek bed.”

A K-9 team with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office was summoned to scene and found the missing driver, identified as 42-year-old Javiel Pena Sola, police said.
Sola was injured and taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for treatment, then transferred to a Charlotte-area hospital for additional care, police said.
He has been charged with three counts of felony hit-and-run involving serious injury or death, police said.
