Huntersville police officer showed up to work impaired, chief says
A Huntersville police officer was arrested Wednesday after he appeared to be impaired when he showed up to work, police officials said.

Officer Michael Ciarleglio was charged with driving while impaired, according to a police news release.
Police Chief Brian Vaughan recommended to town management that Ciarleglio immediately be fired.

Ciarleglio is free on a $5,000 unsecured bond and has a first court appearance Aug. 10, court records show.
“Any time a law enforcement officer is accused of breaking the law, it damages the trust that is essential to our profession,” Vaughan said in a statement in the news release. “Our community deserves officers who uphold the law, and when those standards are violated, we will act decisively and appropriately.”
