Charlotte Water customers urged to conserve after line break floods a busy road

Charlotte Water customers were urged to limit water use Saturday after a water main break flooded a busy road Friday.

Crews closed Queens Road West between the 1000 and 1100 blocks to repair the main.

“In an abundance of caution, CLTWater is asking all customers to further conserve water and refrain from irrigation following a water main break on Queens Rd.,” department officials posted on social media site X around midnight.

“Water remains safe to use,” officials said. “Residents in S. Charlotte may notice slight water pressure changes.”

Around 8 p.m. Friday, Charlotte Water reported that crews “isolated the water main and were assessing the broken pipe to develop a repair plan.”

Repairs were scheduled to take six to eight hours, according to the department, which urged drivers to avoid the area.
