In a Facebook post shared Saturday, Boss Hog BBQ in Sherrills Ford said its final day of business will be July 4.

“Thank you for your continued support of Boss Hog BBQ over the years,” the post reads. “Because you have been valued customers over the years that we’ve served you, you feel more like family, and we cannot leave here knowing we haven’t said our goodbyes.”

Located on N.C. 150, Boss Hog BBQ has served the Lake Norman area since 1989, The Denver Citizen reported.

According to an online listing, the 7.5-acre property at the intersection of N.C. 150 and Slanting Bridge Road, where Boss Hog is located, was previously listed for sale, though the asking price was not disclosed. A spokesperson for Ascent Real Estate Partners, a Charlotte-based real estate firm behind the listing, confirmed the property is currently under contract.

Catawba County property records show the site is valued at more than $800,000.

The family-owned restaurant is known for its barbecue and seafood, serving favorites like ribs, pulled pork and catfish alongside home-style sides such as hush puppies, fried okra, mac and cheese, and slaw.

Besides barbecue and seafood, the menu features classic comfort foods like burgers, hotdogs and hamburger steak.

They also serve fresh salads topped with chicken or fried shrimp, and a variety of simple sandwiches, including a “Poor Boy” sub and fried bologna.

In the announcement, the owners said the restaurant’s legacy extends far beyond the meals it served.

“We’ve shared many fond memories, from catering for customers’ weddings, church luncheons, hearing about children’s and grandchildren’s ventures in college, graduations, or trips overseas … and served fresh meals to many of the families that always come back with a story and a smile,” the post reads.

The owners said they wanted to give customers plenty of advance notice “to make the transition as smooth as possible.”

“We deeply appreciate your loyalty and the opportunity to serve you,” the post concluded.

The restaurant did not respond to CharlotteFive’s request for information about future plans for the property by the time of publication.
