It happened around 12 a.m. Sunday, and two suspects have been arrested, officials said.

Identities of the people involved have not been released.

“Multiple officers were working in the area of Romare Bearden Park and were actively enforcing the City of Charlotte’s Curfew Ordinance when they heard multiple gunshots and responded to the location,” CMPD said in a June 14 news release.

“Officers quickly located and began initial treatment for two subjects found to have sustained gunshot wounds. Officers then also quickly located and apprehended suspects related to the incident. … A firearm was recovered on scene from one of the suspects.”

The two wounded people were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

CMPD Police Chief Estella D. Patterson released a statement early Sunday, noting curfew enforcement played a key role in catching the suspects.

“I am extremely grateful for our officers who were proactively patrolling the area and were able to identify the suspects quickly. As we move into the summer months, CMPD will continue our efforts to keep our community safe,” Patterson said.

Romare Bearden Park takes up an entire block near the intersection of South Church Street and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
