A ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, in Mebane, according to a company news release. Mayor Ed Hooks and members of the Mebane City Council will attend, along with Sen. Amy Galey, Reps. Dennis Riddell and Stephen Ross, among others.

The Texas-based chain is known to go big, and its forthcoming store at 1425 Trollingwood-Hawfields Road will be no different. The new travel center will sit on 34 acres and occupy 74,000 square feet.

Plans also include 650 parking spots, 120 gas pumps and 24 electric vehicle travel stations, The Raleigh News & Observer previously reported. However, this location won’t have a car wash, a signature feature of other Buc-ee’s gas stations.

“For our first North Carolina store, we’ve landed in the best location possible,” Stan Beard, Buc-ee’s director of real estate and development, said in the release.

“Mebane has all the things that makes Buc-ee’s a positively charming pit stop: great leadership, wonderful community, and a beautiful stretch of I-40/85.”

Buc-ee’s Mebane promises at least 200 full-time jobs, according to the company news release, with pay above minimum wage, 401k matching and paid vacation.

The Mebane store was initially slated to open in May 2027 but has been pushed back to the end of 2027, The N&O reported. City council members approved site plans for the oversize gas station in 2024 amid criticism from the local community.

Beyond its cheery buck-toothed beaver mascot, the convenience store chain is known for its sliced brisket sandwiches, “Beaver Nuggets” and wall of beef jerky snacks. Plus, its pristine bathrooms are routinely ranked among the best in the nation.
